Secondary Pension Scheme

States of Guernsey are proposing the introduction of a Secondary Pension System. This would be in addition to the existing old age pension arrangement and will require all Employers to enrol their employees into a suitable pension scheme and pay a minimum level of contributions. This new obligation would be similar to the ‘automatic enrolment’ work place pension requirement introduced into the UK in 2008.

It is currently intended that the Secondary Pension System will be applied to almost all Employers within the Bailiwick and most of their employees will be eligible to join. If you are an Employer, you will therefore need to consider the pension benefits you provide your employees to ensure they meet these new requirements.
