Bespoke RATS Guernsey
This type of pension arrangement is a bespoke scheme established for a Bailiwick of Guernsey resident individual and/or their spouse and family. These schemes are a very popular form of pension and take advantage of the full scope of the Guernsey legislation governing retirement annuity trust schemes (RATS) under section 157A of the Income Tax Guernsey Law. The benefits include:
- a tailored retirement deed for either you or your family circumstances;
investment through a flexible investment structure into:
- Standard assets classes on recognised exchanges; and
- Non‑standard assets classes which may include the option to invest in property and to take a loan.
Flexibility & Choice
A bespoke pension is formed by way of a trust deed which is flexible to meet an individual or their family’s particular requirements.
The investment structure is flexible with standard assets classes normally via a discretionary investment manager or investment platforms or insurance wrappers. In addition non‑standard asset classes are available within the Bespoke offering such as the investment in commercial or residential property. A Bespoke RATS also allows for a personal loan to be drawn from the retirement fund. Non‑standard asset classes are normally subject to conditions and parameters as set‑out by the governing legislation. See investment strategy tab for further details.
Retirement benefits may commence at any time between age 50 and 75 years, therefore providing you flexibility as to when to commence retirement.
This scheme is approved under section 157A of the Income Tax (Guernsey Law) 1975, as amended, thus allowing contributions to receive tax relief in the Bailiwick of Guernsey in line with the parameters as set out by Guernsey Income Tax. Benefits will be taxed in accordance with an individual’s income tax coding and personal allowances.
The scheme is designed to facilitate both the collection of regular and/or ad‑hoc contributions and consolidate existing pension into a single arrangement. Actual commencement and establishment size will depend on your circumstances and proposed contribution / transfer in levels. Alternatively for smaller arrangements an applicant may wish to consider the Horizon Guernsey Pension Plan or the Horizon Choice Pension Plan.
The Bespoke RATS is open to Bailiwick of Guernsey residents who are over 18 years of age and under the age of 75 years.
